So I've been working on my own for about 2&1/2 weeks....
On memorial day and the Sunday before i worked double shifts.
On Sunday when i went in for my double i had a migraine and my hands and arms went numb (so I couldnt feel them)...
I was told by the manager (in a very rude way) the first time I asked to leave early that I couldn't make a habit of leaving early or missing work...
Im like REALLY! You've got to be kidding me! I asked one time to go home because I can't feel my hands or forearms and i get lectured about missing work! You'd think i asked to leave early very other day or something!
So after she finally said i could leave i tried to call my dad...after i got off the phone with him one of the other servers comes up to me and says "I thought you were sick."
I asked if she noticed my phone was sitting on a table when i dialed the number or that i help the phone with my shoulder.
she's like no and gets all huff and puffy when the manager said she noticed. so anyways i left and went home to try to take care of my migraine...
Monday morning i went in and the first thing that was said to me besides "why are you here?" is "how are you feeling today?"
I told the daytime manager i felt like crap and was still having problems with my hands and arms...
I asked if i could try to get out of my double and she said "No! you have to work! the job requires you to use your hands and arms and you'll just have to work through your migraines."
REALLY!WHAT PART OF MY HANDS ARE STILL NUMB WAS SO DANG HARD TO UNDERSTAND?!?!
So Im like okay ill work my first and see how it goes...
Im not even there for an hour before Im getting yelled at because Im moving to slow.
Id like to see the other servers who think their way to good to be expoing do what i do when they can't feel their hands or arms.
Its my job as an expo to tray up food and make sure the servers get it...well i called out one servers name like 10 times...so on the last call i said "I need (servers name) or a runner (i have to yell this part) Im not calling it again this foods been in the window for like 5 minutes it's gonna die. (this part i kinda mumbled) "
She comes barging through the serving line saying i haven't even called her name once and that there is food missing on her tray...
When she comes back she gets right in my face and says "don't get an attitude with me because im an old b*tchy woman and ill take it out on you."
i just said my usual comeback to stupid ignorant people like that which is whatever and went back to trying to do my job.
i was working for a few minutes before her daughter(also a server) came back starting crap.
So i took my aprin, hairnet, and nametag off and called my dad to come pick me up.
i told him that Im not going to put up with people being all snoby and mean to me when everyone knows i feel like crap and can't feel my hands. I was on the phone with him while the other servers were selling and screaming at me. He just told me it was my decision so as soon as i find another job Im taking it.
I got home after my first shift and he starts asking all these questions about who told me i had to work and who was saying what while he was on the phone? so now were apparently getting a lawyer to settle this...i say its just stupid to get one.
yeah i didn't show up for my double.
i get a call at 7:30 on Tuesday morning because the main day manager says she wants to talk to me about what happened.
i wait about an hour before i go in and all she says when i ask what she wanted to talk about was "oh i just wanted you to host"
Im like really you couldn't have just said that.
she comes from behind the cook line to talk to me and basically just wants to know how long it'll the for me to go home change and come back (15 minutes if i run).
The one (and only) thing she says about the whole situation on Sunday and Monday is "i heard you had a melt down yesterday"
i tried to explain what happened but she just told me to go home and change and come back.
then right before i left she asked if she was burning me out with all the hours.
Im like no i can handed it its just the people Im working with.
In a place where you can hear EVERYTHING that happens in the cook and serving lines from the front you would think that most people would be watching what their screaming at their expos.
I actually had a few customers ask if i needed or wanted a ride home because they heard me talking to my dad. I even had one hand me some money and say for putting up with that b*tch you deserve it.
Back to my point of not having faith in humanity...Whatever happened to treat others as you would have them treat you.
